Year 2 Michaelmas Term at Oxford
Little photographic evidence exists of my second Michaelmas term at Oxford, for it was a dark time. Both my electives for the entire year took place this term, on top of which I had to complete my PhD applications. Autumn’s only saving grace was that, by a massive stroke of luck, one of my electives clashed with a course seminar that I consequently – and with sorrows overflowing – had to forego.
While I
still had energy, I divided my weeks in the following way: two full days of
reading for one class, two for another, one day of writing an essay or
presentation, and two days of attending class and finishing the above work. Consequently,
many of my interests and activities had to fall by the wayside. I was not able
to dedicate much time to language practice, reading, writing, or taking walks.
By week eight, this regimen had made me completely listless, but my tasks had
been accomplished. Hopefully, the work will not have been for nothing.
